| To help develop and sustain Simply Butterflies Conservation Project we offer many butterfly products for sale and export.
A-1 butterfly specimens are selected from our hand-bred stock for export as dry papered butterflies and live pupae. We have also created a line of butterfly by-products. These butterfly art pieces are all hand produced by local village people, made from the wings of the butterflies that have lived out their life inside our public viewing butterfly enclosure. Set up in 2002, we are the first to start a “butterfly livelihood” breeding and conservation program in Bohol. For many local people the new livelihood of butterfly breeding and handcraft production is the first alternative to illegal forest butterfly collecting. Our Sub-Breeders are given a chance to get their fair share for the true effort they put in, rather than the unfair deals they are getting through illegal selling of dry butterflies.
Simply Butterflies is founded on butterfly conservation principles. To protect and strengthen the natural environment of the butterflies, through plant research, breeding and releasing, not just taking them from the wild for financial gains. We don’t offer rare butterflies for sale, because we don’t know the host plants in the area as of this time and therefore can’t breed the rare butterflies. What we can’t breed ourselves we do not sell. The breeding of common butterflies for export helps fund host plant research, development and the breeding of rare butterflies. Unique Products and Gifts :
Our most exciting and unusual products are of a very different nature to the pupae and dried specimens. Local craftsmen handwork butterflies and butterfly wings to create a range of unique items. Together we produce clocks, key rings, beautifully mounted specimens and much more.
At the center of many of our products is a butterfly wing mosaic. Each of these mosaics is painstakingly created from whole butterfly wings. The wings are cut by hand into small pieces to fit, and as each piece is attached individually with great care and a steady hand, the mosaic very slowly takes shape.
